Given below is a posting I found on the Best Buy site on the Product Q&A page for the Samsung UN46C6300SF. The answer is consistent w/ your conjecture.
I was also wondering about the difference between the 6300, 6400 and 6500 series as I was researching this series (and in fact, have now ordered the 6400 from Costco after seeing it in the store---and the picture quality in the store was amazing, which is backed up by reviews of the 6400 on the Costco site and of the 6300 & 6500 on Amazon and Best Buy).
Here are the Q and A on this issue.
Q: "What's the difference between UN46C6300 vs UN46C6400 vs UN46C6500?"
A: "There are several feature differences between the C6000 series units.
1. the C6400/C6500 offers Internet@TV with Samsung App Engine, the C6300 does not
2. the C6400 is a warehouse club exclusive, while the C6300/C6500 are available at most retailers
3.the C6500 offers the 4 leg stand, while the C6300/C6400 offers a standard flat bottom stand.

Hope this helps. BTW, "MrSamsung" seems to be official replies by a Samsung employee(s), and all his/her/their replies have the "official" moniker "MrSamsung" that is recognised by the Best Buy site (in fact Best Buy says that replies on its Q&A page are from other reviewers and "MrSamsung". So I would consider the above a definitive answer to the Q.
Finally, on the same Q&A page I also saw another posting, also from "MrSamsung", saying that the diff. betw. the 6300 and 6500 is that the 6300 has a 4,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio while the 6500 has a 5,000,000:1 (its seems that the 6400 may also have a 5,000,000:1 DCR, though I am not sure about this).
